NADRA's annual meeting takes place at DeckExpo 2009, Wednesday, Oct 28th at 5 P.M. Voting for the
following nominees will take place at the meeting. There are six nominees vying for 4 positions on the Board of Directors.
1) Bill Ross - VP Sales Fiber Composites: I began my career in retail building materials where I spent 22 years, leaving 84 Lumber as VP Sales-Southeast in 1992 to start a construction business in Charlotte NC. After 5 years of building decks and outdoor projects I left self employment to work for Trex and then Tamko where I sought to introduce the first composite fencing in 2002. In 2004 I joined Fiber Composites General Company Background: Fiber Composites, LLC began its history in New London, NC as a manufacturer of wood-plastic composite decking in 1997. Doug Mancosh, the founder and owner, initiated the business venture to develop composite products to compete in the growing market space for low maintenance alternative decking materials. The company built its business under the Fiberon® brand of decking and railing promoted to traditional building material distributors and dealers along with private label programs with national retailers. After a period of rapid growth, Fiber Composites acquired the WeatherBest® manufacturing facility from Louisiana Pacific in 2007 providing bi-coastal manufacturing capacity and capability. In 2008 Fiber Composites initiated a one brand strategy for its building products distribution customer base built around the Fiberon brand. In December 2008, Fiber Composites, LLC and SensibuiltTM Building Solutions reached a merger agreement that joined their assets and brands to establish a leading player in the alternative decking marketplace. A primary focus of the merger was the integration of Sensibuilt cellular PVC decking under the umbrella of Fiberon branded products. I provide a unique vertically integrated product perspective as an owner, builder, retailer, distributor and manufacturer (of composite decking) My work experiences as carpenter, seller, designer, business owner and senior level management within the channel provide an equally unique perspective in business The result of these inter-related experiences is that I appreciate the conflicting and legitimate cross purposes of the channel and the users/owners. Lastly, I have a desire to contribute to the success of this industry 2) Shawn Miller - Classic Designs Shawn Miller has served on the NADRA board of directors since 2006 having been a charter member, an Ambassador, Secretary and most recently serving as President. Shawn has been a part of the TrexPro Gold Program and part of the Fiberon Council in addition to being featured in the book titled Deck Designs. Shawn earned a degree in business from Kansas State University in 1990 and began working in the industry the same year. He and his wife Melissa started Classic Designs Inc in 1995 and he serves as President. They live in the Denver, Colorado metro area and have three children, Avery, Quinn, and Lily. Shawn's serving as NADRA's President this past year has been a tremendous opportunity to give back to the industry he loves so much and he hopes to continue down this path in the upcoming year. 3) Bobby Smith - Decksouth Inc. Bobby is a partner with Decksouth Inc., based in Atlanta, GA. Decksouth Inc. has been designing and building custom outdoor living spaces in Atlanta area for 10 years. As a company, Decksouth Inc. has participated in every Deck Expo and is a Charter Member of NADRA. Not stopping there, he successfully orchestrated the application and formation of the now current Atlanta Chapter of NADRA. He continues his service as the current President of the Atlanta Chapter. Earlier this year, the Atlanta Chapter hosted a successful education seminar with Simpson Strong-Tie that drew over 70 attendees. I am a 1995 graduate of Penn State University, holding degrees in Journalism and English. And I am a former adjunct Professor of Communications, as well as a former newspaper reporter. I am the owner/operator of DeckBuilder Custom Decks & Railings, aka: America's DeckBuilder, based in Barnegat, New Jersey. Having created my company in 1998, I have established a reputation as South Jersey's composite decking expert. My work was recently recognized by the New Jersey chapter of NADRA, reaping two of six annual awards. A subsequent feature article recently appeared in many of our area newspapers, extolling my commitment to an elevated standard of service and product. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the industry as a member of the Board of Directors, and especially the builders who make up the core of our membership. If elected, one of my first missions will be to establish a "Builder's Voice" committee, which will make recommendations to our manufacturers regarding their products, their marketing, their co-op programs, and anything else that we--their end users--would like to see them address. I also look forward to working with the membership and the board to lobby for building code revision, and a host of other topics. I like to think that with a good group of like-minded individuals working toward the same goals--not those of any one individual--we can acheive objectives unforeseen. 5) Rich Phillips - Decks by Design, LLC Decks-By-Design, LLC started in March 2006 with the idea of being a professional oriented company with a vast knowledge about the products being offered to its customers.
