Recently, a 220 lb concentrated live load proposal has been submitted to the American Society of Civil Engineers for consideration into the 2021 version of the ASCE 7 Publication known as “Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures”. NADRA’s Technical Code Committee has read through the proposal and sent an official letter to ASCE’s Dead and Live Load Subcommittee stating that NADRA is in opposition of the proposal for a number of valid, solid reasons. ASCE’s Subcommittee will read our comments among others and will vote on the proposal sometime in October. If there is a passing vote, then the ballot proposal will be forwarded to ASCE’s Main Committee for more consideration and another vote.
