Top Gun Decking
Partner: Deckorators
Our wonderful clients bought their retirement home on the river in Elkton, but their much-outdated deck took away from the views of the mountains and Shenandoah River. We stripped the existing decking and installed Deckorators Sedona with Dark Slate borders. We made minor repairs to the decking and then installed a waterproof GTape on the existing joists to prolong the life. The gazebo overlooking the river was re-screened, but the real highlight of this project was 240 feet of Deckorators cable rail

This was only a 5-year-old but poorly constructed deck that was buckling, dipping, and boards were popping. the client came to our home show booth, saw some patterns she really liked, and made her decision on the spot to hire us. once she reviewed some materials and picked a couple of the colors, she said for me to design something unique that she wouldn’t see anywhere else. one of a kind with a subtle WOW factor. I came up with this very unique 7-board border pattern blending light, medium, and dark shades of grays in multi-width boards and adding in a reddish-brown tone to tie in with the brick. continued the pattern with matching fascia trim. We added about 20 low-voltage LED recessed accent lighting to enhance and extend the enjoyment into the evening hours. Our client wrote a 5-star Google review before we even requested the final payment.

- This was a large project, 1400 square feet!
- The structure was good, but we found that all the footings needed to be replaced.
- We exchanged wood posts for concrete pier footings. Additionally, there was some rotted materials that we had to replace as needed on the framing. We added structural blocking and additional framing as needed.
- We used a new FastenMaster product: deck frame coating across all flat areas
- This deck had a lot of custom angle work! Nothing was square, lots of triangle work. Added a custom bench to match the deck, built into the picture frame style
- Single picture frame around the perimeter.
- Two-toned the staircase.
- Drink rail around the entire perimeter.
- Post and stair lighting.
