The goal of our homeowner was to remodel the existing pool surround with a design that would highlight the curved shape of the pool and create a welcoming space for all to enjoy. To achieve this, we:
- Installed curved decking to compliment the lines of the pool and spa. Because of the design, each board was a slightly different angle so forms could not be used, every board had to be individually heated and then shaped in place for the perfect fit.
- Used mineral-based composite sleepers, shimming them in all directions, to create a completely level base that would allow for water flow with the existing drainage system but also hold up to moisture over time
- After installing about 1/3 of the boards using grooved composite, we discovered the grooves did not handle being curved consistently and it created warping and uneven seams. All decking had to be removed and solid boards were used instead.

The ultimate backyard is what the homeowners wanted, and the design and results exceeded those desires. The deck was restructured to have an open concept and expanded to give an open view of the pool by installing frameless glass illuminated panel railings. Added motorized screens for the deck and the underneath area has a ceiling to match the decking, along with new recessed heaters. The kitchen area is covered with a louvered roof pergola incorporated with a sheer rain curtain over entry into the pool. Also, a secondary freestanding deck across the pool matches the same material used on the deck and is covered with another louvered roof pergola. Below that freestanding deck is the aluminum framing used as we wanted to make sure we had a lifetime product holding up that deck since it’s not accessible. We successfully worked through weather delays, all the tight access requirements, new lighting technology, and products we have never used. Two years of planning have gone into this year-long build and through literal blood, sweat, and tears we completed this epic build. This family now has a backyard that gives them the ultimate enjoyment and a place for family and friends to enjoy.

A monsoon-like storm created a unique opportunity for a full yard renovation on this California property after the original landscape was washed away. With a focus on resilience and sophistication, the redesign transformed the ravine area and created an inviting outdoor living space. Each element was crafted for durability to withstand future weather events, while enhancing the property’s aesthetic and functionality.
At the heart of the renovation is a new pool and a Timbertech deck providing a seamless foundation for relaxation and entertainment. The pool area is complemented by a fireplace and sitting area, cedar pergolas for shade, and an outdoor kitchen and bar for easy hosting and dining.
The project also introduced a lush landscape, linking each feature across the property. A circular stone and gravel pathway with native plants connects the firepit, bocce ball court, and hillside seating across the ravine. Two custom bridges, designed to match the pool deck, span the ravine, tying the spaces together harmoniously. This renovation achieves a balance of beauty, durability, and function, creating a cohesive, enduring outdoor retreat.
