The client had a roof leak that sparked needing to replace membrane underneath. This is an older property in DC, two townhouses joined together making one rooftop area. The layers of past roofing materials created a lumpy surface causing us to have to engineer the deck framing underneath.
About 100 hours went into the framing alone, once the framing was complete the decking went on perfect, trimmed around all the fixtures, skylights, chimney, etc. We do PhotoCircle, so I have over 100 progress photos from the white membrane, all framing, everything.
I wanted this project bad though, simply for these photos, breathtaking views of Rosslyn skyline across the Potomac, along with views of the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument.
An amazing project and special thanks to such incredible clients for giving us this opportunity.

This project was built upon the existing steel frame of the home. New composite sleepers were fastened 12″ on center to be able to run the decking out from the home as opposed to parallel. Each and every deck board across the 24′ of deck were all individually back cut and heat folded to create a one piece, waterfall edge effect, with each board acting as both the deck top that cascades down to form the skirting. Same principle was applied to the outside stair edges.
