Feature Wall and Light up Deck embody and pay homage to 3 Historical Hastings sights. We started with a 36′ curved wall on a 78′ radius for the main “canvas”. Three Historical Hastings scenes were then created from various materials and decorated with the accents of Light! The decorating included:
- A smattering of fiber optic strands that were fed through the wall and then cut flush to produce a spec of light, resembling stars that actually twinkle due the the light source being called a “Light engine” with its motor producing varying light intensity, color, and speed.
- The river inlay on the deck floor was treated with the same fiber process giving the river a constant glistening and gentle current effect.
- A faux eclipsed moon/sun was installed, paired with a 4 phase touch dimmer to give total control to the desired vibe.
- Lastly, we used flexible lighting strips as backlighting and under the front fascia as downlighting to create a hovering deck effect.
A whole new framing process has to be developed in order to make the river come to life because there would be no access to the underside once the decking was laid.

This modern lake house-style project beautifully complements the home’s architecture, creating an inviting indoor-outdoor space that feels like a seamless extension of the house. Designed with entertainment in mind, the layout includes a garage that doubles as an entertainment space, providing a smooth transition from indoor gatherings to the expansive outdoor area, all while maximizing lake views from nearly every angle.
A custom rail-top bar overlooks the lake, offering a picturesque spot to enjoy the view, while the spacious dining and lounge area—with heaters and a louvered roof—ensures comfort in any weather. The upper deck features a fully screened, intimate retreat with motorized screens for ease of use. Equipped with a full kitchen and a social grilling island, the space is perfect for hosting gatherings.
One of the key challenges was working around the existing septic system, but with strategic planning, the design maintains functionality without sacrificing aesthetics. This project combines thoughtful design with practical features, creating an ideal space for both relaxation and entertainment.
