Wood Deck Under $25k

This project was our first with an alternative framing deck, and the Fortress Evolution steel framing system was a standout. Paired with durable American Ground Screw footings, this frame will far outlast the redwood decking installed above. Though we don’t typically work with raw wood, redwood’s natural beauty and flexibility were a joy to incorporate. Redwood worked seamlessly with the Fortress frame, and we used custom plugs to cover self-tapping screws, creating a flawless hidden fastener system.

To complete the look, we chose the Fortress FE26 steel railing, which matched beautifully with the frame. Exposed steel fascia and stair stringers brought a subtle industrial vibe, and we crafted mitered stair treads with pocket-screwed and glued joints for a refined finish. Leaving the risers open added a modern touch.

The result is a deck that’s both robust and stylish, and the client couldn’t be happier with its timeless look and long-lasting durability.
