Deckorators® MBC Decking Approved for Use as Cladding
Mineral-based composite (MBC) technology available for home and commercial exteriors
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 30, 2021 — Already very popular among deck builders, beautiful and durable Deckorators® mineral-based composite (MBC) decking is now approved for use as cladding. Patented EovationsTM MBC technology makes stylish Deckorators® MBC decking lightweight and strong with virtually no thermal movement, offering builders inspiring new design options for home and commercial exteriors.
Deckorators® MBC decking — Voyage, Vault and Frontier decking and picture frame boards — can be installed as wall cladding in horizontal, vertical and angled applications. Each line offers its own unique color, variegation, and texture with a stain- and fade-resistant cap stock. All Deckorators MBC decking is low-maintenance and backed by a 50-year structural, 25-year stain-and-fade, 25-year removal-and-replacement limited warranty.
Three MBC decking widths can be installed as cladding: 3½, 5½ and 7½ inches. Lengths include 12, 16 and 20 feet. The Stowaway™ hidden fasteners and Starborn® Pro Plugs from Deckorators are among the available mounting solutions.
“Our MBC decking has gained a loyal following in the deck contractor community, and we’re excited to announce the approval of a cladding application,” said Chris Camfferman, managing director of marketing for Deckorators. “Now builders can get the style, unmatched structural integrity and superior warranty of MBC decking for even the toughest exterior applications.”
Deckorators MBC decking with EovationsTM technology is nearly 35 percent lighter than traditional composites and similar in weight to PVC, and allows virtually no thermal expansion or contraction.
MBC decking is composed of a mix of polypropylene and calcium carbonate, which is used instead of wood fiber to prevent moisture absorption and minimize thermal movement. In the EovationsTM process, the polymer-mineral blend is extruded and stretched. The resulting cavitation creates tiny air pockets that keep the board lightweight as it takes on a fiber-like structure similar to wood for superior strength. MBC boards are then capped with polypropylene to create a durable surface that’s stain-, fade- and scratch-resistant.
