NADRA Atlanta Chapter Meeting Re-Cap
June 2013
It was another successful meeting for the Atlanta NADRA Chapter on Tuesday, June 18th held at the Ivy in Buckhead. Even with the busy season, summer vacations and our crazy weather we still had 35 in attendance with several visitors and one new member – Artistic Remodeling.
We caught up on the minutes from last month, heard from the treasurer that we are still in good standing and also discussed some updates from the code committee. We will set aside time in the August meeting to thoroughly review the current proposed code changes for Georgia and we will give time for questions and follow up from Steve Matrangos, Craig Dickerson and Rick Goldstein on these issues. If you would like a copy of the proposed prescriptive changes that are in place then please email Craig Dickerson at (craig@decksource.com) and he will forward you a copy. We announced the kick off for Deck for this year’s Deck For A Solider build. Scott McCawley of Dixie Plywood will be the lead for vendor participation and David Tibbetts of Atlanta Decking & Fence will be the lead for builder participation. Scott has contacted Operation Homefront our partner in securing a deserving military family and we will be a initiating a write in contest with them in the coming weeks. Please email Scott (smmccawley@dixieply.com) if you are interested in participating with materials and David (via Ginny)( ginny@atlantadecking.com) if you are interested in participating as a builder. This is one of the highlight events that we participate in every year and it is a very rewarding event for all those that take part and for the chapter.
Special thanks to Joey Matthews and Mark Guthrie of FastenMaster for sponsoring this month’s meeting. Mark gave an informative and interesting presentation centered on deck failure and examining proper deck building to avoid failure. We also had a great presentation from David Ellis our featured speaker of the evening. David is the Executive Vice President of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and he gave us an overview of the primary function of the Home Builders Association and also spoke on the current market conditions and future of the new construction market in Atlanta. We hope to continue and to further our participation with the Atlanta HBA in the future and become the Deck resource for their members. Special thanks to David for agreeing to be with us this month. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday – August the 20th at the Ivey in Buckhead. Our sponsor for the meeting is Dixie Plywood and our guest speaker will be the President of Dixie – Danny Bachman
Respectfully Submitted
